The Link Between Addiction and Anxiety
Many individuals living with addiction also have trouble managing co-occurring anxiety. The relationship between anxiety and addiction is complex and intertwined. In some cases, individuals may turn to substances as a way to cope with their anxiety, leading to addiction. In other cases, substance misuse may trigger or worsen symptoms of anxiety. This cycle can be difficult to break without proper treatment that addresses both conditions simultaneously.
Signs of a potential dual diagnosis of anxiety and addiction can include:
- Using substances to cope with stress
- Increased use of substances during periods of high stress or panic
- Feeling nervous or uneasy when not using drugs or alcohol
- Difficulty managing daily tasks and responsibilities due to the impact of anxiety and addiction
- Isolation and withdrawal from loved ones
- Mood swings, irritability, and restlessness
If you or a loved one are experiencing these symptoms, the professionals at Sophros Recovery can help.
A Comprehensive Approach to Anxiety Treatment
Anxiety and addiction often go hand in hand, making it difficult for individuals to break free from the cycle of substance misuse. That’s why at Sophros Recovery, we take a comprehensive approach to treating anxiety and co-occurring addiction. The four main cornerstones of our programs are therapy, medication-assisted treatment, case management, and alumni support.
Therapy
Evidence-based and holistic therapies include both group sessions and one-on-one interactions, ensuring that each client receives the personalized attention they need.
MAT
Medication-assisted treatment provides a safe and effective method to manage addiction and anxiety for those who need it.
Case Management
Additionally, our case management services provide ongoing support, from initial assessment to aftercare planning.
Alumni Support
Our alumni support program connects clients with ongoing resources, community events, and peer support groups to help maintain long-term recovery.
During treatment in one of our outpatient programs, clients can continue to work, attend school, or care for family members while receiving the help they need. Our compassionate and experienced staff helps them build and practice the skills they need to recover.
Personalized Anxiety Treatment Program
Recognizing the uniqueness of each individual’s journey, we offer various levels of care including:
- Day or night treatment program – Our most involved level of care provides clients with a structured and supportive environment during the day while allowing them to return home at night.
- Intensive outpatient program (IOP) – Our IOP provides more flexibility and freedom, as clients attend therapy sessions for several hours a few times per week. Evening IOP sessions are also available to accommodate busy schedules.
- Outpatient program (OP) – This level of care offers the most independence as clients continue to receive therapy while integrating back into their daily lives.
Our team works with each client to determine the most appropriate level of care based on their unique needs and goals. We also offer specific programs for veterans and professionals struggling to break free from the cycle of addiction.
Therapies Utilized in Our Anxiety Program
Our therapy sessions utilize a mix of evidence-based and holistic therapies, including:
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
- Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
- Yoga therapy
- Nutritional counseling
By working in individual, group, and family sessions, clients can gain a better understanding of their anxiety, learn coping strategies and skills, and build a support network to help them maintain long-term recovery.
